If on a recent grocery trip or on a restaurant menu you've noticed an unusual "foreign flavor," a new sugar-free beverage, or a sweet snack featuring chocolate's "Brazilian cousin," don't be surprised. Exploring unexpected flavors, choosing food with "big picture" awareness, plus our continued interest in wellbeing, are three perennial threads driving food trends for both innovative food companies and established brands. To outline these influences and share insights about what's in the pipeline for 2026, Dame Melissa Abbott, vice president of syndicated studies at The Hartman Group, a strategic consulting agency in Bellevue investigating and providing syndicated consumer research, will present an illustrated overview. Be ready for surprises--and reassurances.
As a key member of Hartman Group's Leadership Team, Melissa Abbott drives innovation in trend identification and strategy for clients in the food and beverage industry. She leads the firm's Syndicated Studies division, bringing more than 20 years of expertise in tracking cultural shifts across health, wellness, food and retail areas. A nationally recognized authority on consumer behavior and culture, Melissa holds an MS degree in Food Marketing from the National University of Ireland, Cork, and a BS degree from Emerson College.
This not to be missed gathering will take place at the Book Larder, Seattle's unique and wonderful community bookstore featuring the latest cookbooks, cooking classes, author demonstrations, and a myriad of food-related conversations. Yes, there will be appetizers to nibble and wine poured.
