New endeavors to cut food waste are happening right here in Seattle. When you learn food waste costs the commercial food service industry an estimated $100 billion annually and also costs Washington households more than $1,900 a year, the significance for our wallets and the planet can't be ignored. To learn more about work the Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is undertaking with Global Impact Collective, a Pacific Northwest-based consultancy focused on social and environmental sustainability through the lens of human-centered design, don't miss this meeting!
Cady Susswein, Principal Strategist from the Global Impact Collective, and Liz Fikejs, Senior Waste Prevention Manager with Seattle Public Utilities, will talk to our group about a six-months long discovery project exploring how food businesses and other commercial entities can help consumers reduce food waste by positioning food as a connector that builds community and fosters cultural connections. Focused on the notion of food as a connector – something sacred, something precious – they are brainstorming creative partnership ideas to reduce food waste with the Seattle community. They will lead a discussion to hear directly from Les Dames d’Escoffier members as female leaders in Seattle’s food industry about ways to teach the next generation a love for food.
Bring a friend and join your LDES pals to kick off the New Year with positive ideas for addressing a major environmental and cost concern. Your thoughts on these ideas and a discussion of potential ways forward will be valuable.
