Come join us for this special gathering sponsored by LDES' Green Tables Committee! Bring a shopping bag or basket to find tasty fresh veggies, leafy greens, Rainer and Bing cherries, and more at opening day of the Tukwila Village Farmer Market located at the Tukwila Village Plaza. Locally grown fruit and produce of all sizes and shapes will be yours to purchase at this vibrant farmers' market run by the nonprofit Global to Local. Friends and potential LDES members are also welcome for this meeting.
Our dinner for this evening will be prepared by Chef Caroline, a Spice Bridge participant and owner of “The Taste of Congo,” the only Congolese food business in our region. We'll share dinner at outside tables set up at Spice Bridge. Adding to the occasion, our 2023 Green Table Grant recipient will join us to share her experiences.
As background, the Green Tables Committee of Les Dames Seattle has been a longtime advocate and supporter of the Global to Local organization, mindful of the significance of its mission to uplift women in our community seeking food-related careers. With its programs, the nonprofit provides entrepreneurial opportunities for immigrant women seeking to launch fast-casual food businesses, The organization also trains participants as farmers who can establish businesses selling produce at local farmers' markets. The importance of growing, and then selling freshly grown and ethnically identifiable vegetables feeds nutritional needs and also brings the local community together while instilling deep pride and confidence in new farmers.
