HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY
TAYLOR SHELLFISH FARM STAND
Located on Chuckanut Drive at the north end of the Skagit Valley. Nicole Gilmore will give us a tour and shuck oysters too! (If Vibrio is in bloom we will instead be treated to local clams steamed for us.) All to be chased down with cool beverages and short stories of the fabulous Taylor Family who has been a huge part of preserving our natural seafood heritage since the 1890’s.
HEDLIN FARMS
Serena and Dave Hedlin have guided this amazing 100 year-old farm comprised of 300 acres of vitally important seed crop for the world, 40 acres of gorgeous organically grown produce and 2 acres of luscious hothouse heirloom tomatoes and peppers. Dave will meet us at the farm stand and walk us through the farmland to the amazing world of tomatoes.
LA CONNER FLATS
Our hostess, Jennings Hart, a 5th generation farmer, will greet us and give us a vision of where she is taking this centennial 230 acre farm while we enjoy local (including the slopes and the islands) wine and cheese along with touring the 11 acres of breathtaking European display gardens. Featured wine from Hellam’s Wine Cellar, located on the Skagit River in LaConner. This is where the Seattle Culinary Academy created the farmer/student partnership - which Les Dames d’Escoffier made possible with that very first bus ride.
